Initial few years after its establishment, operations of Metro Ticari ve Mali Yatırımlar Holding A.Ş. ("Metro") (Previously known as Van-Et A.Ş.) was breeding and butchering cattle and ovine along with poultry, and accordingly production and marketing of meat and meat products with their by-products, and other foodstuff. The company was established in 1977 in Van as a World Bank Project.
Having been founded in 1977, Metro Holding grew rapidly; its stocks started being traded at Istanbul Menkul Kıymetler Borsası (Istanbul Stock Exchange) in 1988. It founded integrated meat plants in 1985. In the year 1988, Van-Et A.Ş. facilities, which are still one of the largest integrated meat plants of our country, were completed and the company launched the production.
The company management passed to Metro Group after 2006. With the reorganization made in 2009, the title of Van-Et A.Ş. was changed to Metro Ticari ve Mali Yatırımlar A.Ş.
The title of the company, which became a holding due to structural changes, has become Metro Ticari ve Mali Yatırımlar Holding A.Ş. as of August 2010. There are 17 firms operating in tourism, food, mining, and energy industries within Metro Holding. Holding has a capital amounting to TL300.000.000.
